How to convert PNG to JPG

Drop your PNG files onto the box, choose them with the button or paste a copied image. Set the JPG quality, pick a background colour if your images have transparency, press Convert and download the files or a ZIP. Quality starts at 90, which keeps photos looking clean while saving space.

Why JPG files are smaller

PNG keeps every pixel exactly, which suits graphics but is wasteful for photographs with millions of subtle colours. JPG approximates the picture and discards detail the eye hardly notices, so a photo saved as PNG can shrink dramatically as JPG. That helps pages load faster, keeps email attachments under size limits and makes uploads quicker.

What happens to transparent areas

JPG has no transparency, so any transparent pixels must become a solid colour. The tool fills them with white by default, and the colour picker lets you choose another, for instance to match a dark page. If the see-through background matters, keep the PNG or convert to WebP with the PNG to WebP converter, which preserves transparency.

Choosing a quality value

The default of 90 gives results that most people cannot tell from the original in a normal photo. Around 75–85 saves noticeably more space with little visible change, and going far below that starts to show blocky patches and smeared edges. Try a few values on one image, compare the sizes in the results list, then apply the best one to the whole batch.

Bulk conversion

You can convert up to 100 images at once, each up to 60 MB, and download them separately or as a ZIP. The converted files keep their original names with a .jpg extension, and the results list shows the size of each so you can see how much space you saved.

Where PNG is still the better choice

Screenshots with text, logos and diagrams have sharp edges and flat colours, exactly the content where JPG produces fuzzy halos, especially at low quality settings. Keep those as PNG, or use a high quality value. Converting from JPG back to PNG later will not restore lost detail, so keep your PNG originals.

Files are processed in your browser and are not uploaded. To reduce the size further after converting, use the image compressor, or go the other way with the JPG to PNG converter.

A little, by design: JPG is lossy, and the quality slider controls how much detail is discarded – higher keeps more detail at a larger file size. Your original PNG is untouched; see “Choosing a quality value” below for guidance.
