How Old Is Someone Born in 1980 to 2015? Age Chart for 2026

Born in 2000? In 2026 you are 26 after your birthday and 25 before it. A chart of every birth year from 1980 to 2015.

Title card for an age chart showing how old someone is for every birth year from 1980 to 2015 in 2026

To find how old someone is from their birth year, subtract the year they were born from 2026. If their birthday this year has already passed, that is their age; if it has not, they are one year younger. Someone born in 2000 is 26 after their birthday in 2026 and 25 before it.

This guide gives that answer for every birth year from 1980 to 2015, shows the year each person reaches the milestone ages 18, 21, 30, 40, 50 and 65, and explains why a birth year alone can only ever give an age to within one year. For an exact age in years, months and days you need the full date of birth, and the age calculator does that. It is a supporting guide to how to calculate the days between two dates.

How do you work out someone's age from their birth year?#

You only need two things: the year they were born and whether their birthday has happened yet this year. Everyone born in the same year is one of two ages at any moment in 2026: the older age if their birthday has passed, the younger age if it has not.

Age in 2026 from the birth year

Age after the birthday = 2026 − birth year

Age before the birthday = age after the birthday − 1

Born in 2000: 2026 − 2000 = 26 after the birthday, 25 before it.

Worked example: born on 15 May 1990, checked on 15 October 2026

Assumptions: The birthday (15 May) has already passed in 2026; the exact age comes from the Age Calculator's own function.

  • Birth year subtraction: 2026 − 1990 = 36.
  • The birthday has passed, so the age is 36 years and 5 months.
  • That is 13,302 days in total.

Someone born in the same year but on 20 December would still be one year younger on that date.

You can check this example yourself: see the exact age for a 15 May 1990 birth date opens the calculator already filled in.

Reading the chart: someone born in 1980 is 46 or 45, someone born in 2000 is 26 or 25, and someone born in 2015 is 11 or 10.

When do people born in each year turn 18, 21, 30, 40, 50 and 65?#

A birth year also tells you the calendar year of each milestone: add the milestone age to the birth year. The table shows every fifth birth year.

For example, someone born in 2000 turns 21 in 2021 and 30 in 2030, so in 2026 they are 26 after their birthday. Rules that depend on an exact birthday, such as school or eligibility cut-offs, need the full date, not just the year.

Why a birth year only gives an age within one year#

Two people born in the same year can be almost a year apart in age. Someone born on 1 January 2000 and someone born on 31 December 2000 are 26 and 25 on 1 January 2026: the first has just had a birthday and the second has not. They are only 365 days apart, and only the date of birth settles it.

For anything that needs to be exact, such as a form, a visa, an insurance quote or a school cut-off, use the full date of birth. The exact age tool gives the age in years, months and days on today's date or any date you choose, and the guide How to calculate your exact age on any date explains how the months and days are counted.

Before you quote someone's age

  • Ask for the date of birth if the age matters, not just the year.
  • Decide which date you are measuring the age on: today, a deadline or an event date.
  • Check whether the birthday has passed on that date.
  • Use the same date format everywhere to avoid mixing up day and month.

Common mistakes#

  • Mistake: Subtracting the birth year from 2026 and stopping there.

Instead: That is the age after the birthday. Before the birthday the person is one year younger: someone born in 2000 is 25 until their birthday in 2026.

  • Mistake: Using this chart in a different year.

Instead: The ages are for 2026. In 2027 every age in the chart is one higher.

  • Mistake: Treating a birth year as a date of birth.

Instead: Everyone born in a year is one of two ages at a given moment, so use the full date when it matters.
